The Church 1914 History

The Knox Presbyterian Church was established in 1914 with a seating capacity of 500. In 1970, the congregation relocated to a new site in Pomona Street, and the old church was given to the Pacific Island Church. However, due to declining attendance and maintenance issues, they eventually moved to the adjacent hall, taking the original rimu floors with them.

In November 2010, we acquired the property through a tender process, the church was in a state of disrepair, with rubble, exposed piles, and even ferns growing inside. After three years of cleaning, planning, and obtaining necessary permissions, we began renovating the building with the initial idea of turning it into a luxurious bed and breakfast. However, our vision has evolved, and we now host tours for groups of 10 or more people, as well as various events like executive dinners, weddings, 21st birthday celebrations, funerals, award evenings, and more.
